UAAV 014 – 7 Days Uganda Classic Gorilla Safari

This is one of the best gorilla safaris in Africa. Track the mountain gorillas twice within different habituated gorilla groups in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will track the gorillas in both the Northern and Southern Sector of the park. After the treks enjoy the Batwa Experience, one of the most exciting activities to interact with the locals.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer

Upon arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be met and warmly received by your driver guide from Abacus African Vacations who will transfer you to your hotel for an overnight stay

Day 2: Kampala – Bwindi National Park (South)

Meet at your hotel and leave Kampala for Bwindi National Park. We shall have a stop at the Equator where you will perform a simple experiment to experience a tropical balance, have a look at the traditional drums and crafts being made, and thereafter proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest famously known for the rare Mountain Gorillas. Bird life and primate life in this forest is quite superb, and there is an incredible variety of flora. Bwindi is the Bird watchers haven! It holds 348 species of birds and supports 24 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics that occur in Uganda, of which you might have a chance to encounter some as well as other primate species.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking (Southern Bwindi)

After your breakfast, you will be transferred to the gorilla tracking information office for a pre-gorilla tracking briefing by the park warden and rangers at 8am. After briefing, the rangers will then lead you into the forest to track these gentle giants (Mountain gorillas). The thrill of spending time observing the gorillas as they interact with each other is a pleasing and unforgettable one, you are allowed an hour witnessing the interaction of these close relatives of ours. You are advised to carry with you a packed lunch for, the time spent tracking the gorillas would not be known to you but varies from 3 to 8 hours. Time permitting; you may go for a late afternoon community walk to see the local people’s way of life and cultures.

Day 4: Bwindi (Southern Bwindi) – Bwindi (Northern Bwindi)

After breakfast, you will cross through the forest from the southern sector to the area more developed for tourism purposes in the northern sector of Bwindi famously known as the buhoma sector. Bird life and primate life in this forest is quite superb, and there is an incredible variety of flora. Bwindi is the Bird watchers haven! It holds 348 species of birds and supports 24 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics that occur in Uganda, of which you might have a chance to encounter some as well as other primate species. You will get to the lodge in time for lunch and can choose between a local community visit and relaxing at the lodge.

Day 6: Batwa Cultural Experience (Northern Bwindi)

This is one of the most exciting activities in this park as it involves visiting the Batwa pygmies, an indigenous people who were lived in Bwindi impenetrable forest. They were known as “The Keepers of the Forest” and survived by hunting, gathering plants and fruits in the forest. These people lived in harmony with the forest and its creatures, including the mountain gorillas. They constructed huts out of leaves and branches for shelter, and like gorillas, they moved frequently in search for fresh supplies of food. You will be taken through the lifestyle of these people as well as opportunities for storytelling.
